Description:
There is more to music than meets the ears! Time and again, research has shown that participation in music has many benefits. From stress reduction to increasing breath support, improving mood, creative expression, improved memory recall, and more, music can have a positive impact throughout the lifespan and for all abilities.
This summer, Quad Cities Music Therapy is introducing their Senior Services program, offering local seniors opportunities to engage their minds, bodies, and spirits through music programming. Quad Cities Music Therapy is hosting a launch party and inviting QC Plus 60 members to attend. The event will include singing, recreational drumming, and ukulele playing as part of the music experience, along with refreshments.
The best part is that there’s NO PRIOR MUSIC EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
Upcoming Senior Services will include:
Senior Sing – Recreational Singalong time to share in the joy of music while singing along with familiar favorites.
Singing through Parkinson’s – This program is designed for seniors with Parkinson’s Disease or a related neurological condition. Special attention will be given to improving participants’ breath support, articulation, and speech pacing. Singing through Parkinson’s will be led by a broad certified music therapist with additional training and certification in Neurological Music Therapy.
Group Piano Class – Students will be guided through beginning piano technique and music terminology to play along to familiar favorites. No prior experience necessary, and all keyboards will be provided for use during class periods.
Golden Beats – This recreational drumming program is designed to provide low impact aerobic impact movement that may help to reduce stress and anxiety, boost the natural immune system, and improve overall wellness.
Uke & Sing – Learn the basics of playing the ukulele, and how to sing along while playing in our Uke & Singing program! Participants may bring their own ukulele, or a ukulele can be provided by QCMT for use during class periods. No prior music experience or knowledge required.
